Artist Statement
Natasha Angélique Reid is a multidisciplinary artist and spatial designer based in London. She works at the intersection of art, architecture and the human sciences to explore the emotional and social dimensions of our surroundings.
Her artworks are rooted in the concept of “Biophillia”, our affinity for the natural world and its benefits for mental health, wellbeing and happiness. Her paintings move between abstract and figurative interpretations to explore the sensory and experiential qualities of natural moments and themes including interconnectedness and the beauty of imperfection.
Her paintings are part of an experimental body of work exploring the field of “Neuroaesthetics” - how the human brain and mind is affected by the arts and aesthetics experiences. It is part of her multi-faceted research on how the built environment and our everyday surroundings can be better shaped to help us reconnect with ourselves, with those around us, and with the natural world.
Background
Natasha is a strong advocate for creating places to support human, social and ecological wellbeing together, through restorative approaches. Her art practice focuses on how places, objects, stories and rituals can better reconnect us to ourselves, to each other and to the world around.
She believes that art has the power to express things that can be hard to put into words. It can bring more harmony, healing and joy into people’s lives, through colour, form and texture. It can also help spark new thinking across challenging issues - like addressing the health of both people and planet.
Natasha is founder of MATTER SPACE SOUL, a spatial design studio shaping places for human and social wellbeing. In 2021 she was named one of Wallpaper magazine’s “Groundbreakers” and Elle Decoration “Women to Watch”. Natasha studied architecture at Cambridge University and gained a distinction for her Professional Diploma in Architecture.
