Stepped Meadow

The Wembley steps are transformed into a vibrant multicolour wildflower meadow that celebrates the importance and beauty of diversity, togetherness and belonging. The mosaic of colours, all unique but coming together in harmony, represent the richness of celebrating all our differences within our communities as away for us to grow and flourish.

The artwork is inspired by the renewal of springtime, and creates an unexpected moment of pause and delight within the fast pace of city life, referencing the history of Wembley Park as a natural beauty spot. Bands of delicate abstract flowers are woven across the tapestry of colour, echoing the colours that dance across meadows and some detailed flowers can be discovered, encouraging people to explore the staircase.

The bands of flowers are depicted in an ethereal way, almost like brush-strokes, to express a sense of movement, renewal and the everchanging cycles of life. The imperfect forms and scattered composition are emphasised to reflect on the beauty found in the organic patterns of nature and gently softens the geometry of the staircase and the built environment.

The artwork aims to brings a sense of springtime colour, energy, growth and vitality into the public realm, aiming to make people passing by feel uplifted and bring an unexpected moment of wonder and curiosity into everyday life.
